Frank Patracelli has vanished with the arcane books, and either Daniel or Harry has been killed. Call of Cthulhu returns later in the year with another dark story from Lovecraft Country.
Marty Murphy
Marty Murphy was a successful private investigator based in Arkham. Following the mysterious death of a friend in 1921, he started to take on more paranormal cases, and was working exclusively in this field by 1925.
That year, the case of the missing expedition headed by playboy Roger Carlyle led him to London, accompanied by Frank Carter, Dexter Watt and Felice Harbinger. Continue reading
Episode One
Daniel Malloy receives a telephone call out of the blue from an Arkham based lawyer, Peter Nichols. Upon meeting Nichols in Arkham, Daniel is surprised to discover that he has an Uncle, now dead, who has named him as his sole beneficiary. Daniel, who was adopted when he was very young, had previously thought he was an orphan. Daniel’s been left an old house on the edge of Arkham, and around $22,000. Nichols takes him to see the house, which has certainly seen better days, and has a brief look round. It’s a mess.
A couple of nights later, Frank Patracelli meets Marty Murphy in a small bar in Boston. Frank has agreed to find a missing person for Marty up in Arkham. Marty is currently lying low in Boston, and has called in this favour. Marty recommends his friend Lori Occam to Frank, should he need assistance in Arkham. After Marty has left, Daniel joins Frank for a drink, and tells him about his inheritance. Continue reading
Rough notes on the Player Characters
Characters already in Arkham
Teresa’s Professor is working at the university for a year (or so), as is Dr. Harry Kemp, the archeologist being played by Ken. They’re probably both living in one of the university apartment buildings, and they’re both from England, so they quite clearly know each other.
Esther’s taxi driver by day, jazz singer by night may have been seen by the English pair, either in the Jazz Club or the Speak Easy (if they’ve ventured in there), or in the back of her cab. Esther’s character knows Marty Murphy, and helped him find the brother of a friend of hers back in November ’22. (Our story starts in March ’23)
Characters in Boston
Matt’s Hollywood Town Mover and Shaker has been in Boston for awhile, and probably met Marty Murphy in a Speak Easy known as The Freights. For some reason he is indebted to Marty and agrees to go off to Arkham to clear up a little business for the P.I.
Nic’s (former?) policeman was very recently summoned to a solicitors in Arkham and was told some surprising news. He’ll have business to attend to in the town for the next few weeks. He and Matt’s character probably met over beers or liquor in The Freights.
That’s what we have to work from as far as who knows who. Hopefully we can get you all together as a group as naturally as possible…
